BREAKING ATOMZ PUBLISHING
Breaking Atomz Publishing House (BAPH) is an independent dynamic publishing house, whose focus is on Hip hop culture literature (and magazines). Due to archaic requirements associated with traditional publishing, aspirant authors of literary works relating to Hip hop and Hip hop culture have often been rejected by traditional publishing houses with their proposals or manuscripts often labelled as not fitting publishing programmes or criteria.
In many ways, this has impacted on and has contributed to the slow growth of literature on South African Hip hop. Breaking Atomz seeks to break this cycle by offering and opening up publishing opportunities to aspirant authors who wish to publish books relating to Hip hop culture or any of its facets or founding Pillars/ elements (Djing; Mcing; B-Boying; Writing/ Graffiti; and Knowledge of Self). In its more than 30 years of existence South African Hip hop has grown from a regional Cape Flats subculture movement to influencing every facet of South African pop/ youth culture and commercial media nationwide. It only stands to reason that its presence should be visible in the literary realm too.
